IPsec creates an encrypted network path between two endpoints. Traffic is protected at the IP layer, so the tunnel can carry routed resources across public or third-party networks while keeping packets confidential in transit.

For hosting operators, remote infrastructure and private platforms, IPsec is useful when the network path must be both routed and protected. Your servers keep receiving usable IPv4 or IPv6 resources, while the transport between sites is authenticated and encrypted.

How an IPsec tunnel works.

The two tunnel endpoints first authenticate each other and negotiate the cryptographic parameters used for the session. Once the tunnel is established, packets matching the tunnel policy are encapsulated and protected before crossing the network.

In practice, the endpoint can live on a router, firewall, gateway server or virtual edge. Routes decide which prefixes use the tunnel, while IPsec handles the secured transport between your infrastructure and Taipan Transit.

IPsec is built for environments where trust in the underlying network is limited. It adds endpoint authentication, encrypted transport and predictable site-to-site behavior without changing the applications behind the tunnel.
